Aura digital photo frames work entirely with the cloud, so there’s no SD card required. Its latest model, the Mason Luxe, comes in two colors: Sandstone or Pebble. Constructed from a rigid plastic, light and dark–colored flecks give it a classy, granite look. Unlike regular photo frames, the Mason Luxe does not have a flip–out stand. Instead, the stiff, blocky design means it can freely stand on its own in portrait or landscape. Images rotate accordingly.
Setup via the app is easy, and you simply add photos from your Photo Library over Wi–Fi. A touch panel top and side give you control over images, and access to a variety of other settings.
In terms of image quality, you get a 9.7-inch 2K LCD display with a max resolution of 2048x1536. The pixel density is rich, so you won’t notice any pixelation with your photos, and the semi–matte finish means it’s more in line with an actual printed photo, though there’s a bit of glare in certain settings. While you can play videos on the Mason Luxe, playback isn’t particularly smooth.
The frame has an ambient light sensor, which auto adjusts brightness according to light levels in the room, and it turns off when the lights go out.
