Reduce wrist–strain with Logitech’s latest ergonomic mouse
Logitech’s premium MX range already includes an ergonomic mouse called the MX Vertical, but its new Lift vertical mouse is designed to provide a more affordable option, costing $69.99 compared to $99.99 for the MX Vertical. And, unlike the MX Vertical, the Lift is available in both left– and right–handed versions, as well as in a variety of different colors. It's smaller than the MX Vertical and, to be honest, our manly paws preferred the larger MX Vertical. Even so, the Lift is still very comfortable to use, with a soft rubber grip and ergonomic “vertical” design that reduces wrist strain by enabling you to rest your hand in the more relaxed “handshake” position. The Lift doesn’t have a rechargeable battery, but there’s one AA battery included and Logitech says that this should last for up to two years.
The Lift can work like a conventional Bluetooth mouse, but it also includes Logitech’s Bolt USB wireless adaptor, which provides greater security than a regular Bluetooth connection (although this uses a USB–A connector, so you’ll need an adaptor for Macs with USB–C). Whichever option you choose, macOS can automatically detect the Lift and treat it like a conventional two–button mouse with a scrolling wheel. However, the Lift has two additional thumb buttons, which require the use of Logitech’s Options app. This can be temperamental at times, and we found that it initially failed to detect the Lift, even though we had already connected it to our Mac. A look on Logitech’s Help pages shows that other Mac users have had this problem with Options, and we were able to find a solution that worked. But mice are supposed to be plug–’n’–play devices, so Logitech needs to clarify the installation instructions to avoid this problem on Mac.
