A good mic with a major drawback
Razer’s Seiren V2 Pro microphone is aimed squarely at streamers, and there’s a lot to like. But there’s also one big caveat that stops it reaching its potential, at least for Mac users.
The Seiren V2 Pro looks sleek with its all–black metal construction, which gives it a satisfyingly premium feel. It comes with a weighty stand, a very lengthy braided USB–A to USB–C cable, and a foam pop filter cover, although strangely this doesn't fit too well.
Audio quality is very good. Recordings are pleasingly clear with no hint of background hum, and the included pop filter works admirably. As a piece of hardware, this mic is excellent.
The problem, though, is that Razer’s Synapse app doesn’t yet work on Macs. This was an issue when we reviewed the Razer Kiyo Pro and at the time Razer told us it was working on Mac compatibility for Synapse. Many months later, it’s still nowhere to be found.
That’s a problem for the Seiren V2 Pro. A big part of streaming is managing your various audio sources, such as the microphone itself and the app you are streaming. Synapse lets you create separate mixes for what you hear and what your viewers hear, then adjust these on the fly. Synpse also controls the high pass filter and analog gain limiter. With no Mac compatibility, you're left to find a third–party alternative.
Without the features brought by Synapse, $150 is a lot to pay for this mic.
