Keychron M1 Mouse

A lightweight mouse with plenty of options

Not everyone wants or needs a wireless mouse — for some, the convenience of never having to recharge and also the weight saving from not having a battery are preferable. Keychron’s M1 is a stylish and ultra–lightweight wired mouse that uses the supplied 6 ft USB–C cable for data and power. It also comes with a USB–A adapter and you can use a longer cable should you wish. The body itself is incredibly lightweight at just 2.4 oz and is semi–open, with its internal circuitry partly visible. This also reveals the animated RGB lights.

Its sensitivity, important for gamers who wish to customize behavior, can be set from 1200–5000 in steps of 100 via a button underneath or the MacOS app which also lets you customize its seven top buttons. These comprise left and right, a clickable central scroll wheel and two smaller buttons on either side. A range of commands can be assigned to each, with some Mac – specific options available too. There’s also the option in the app to record macro commands and assign those to specific keys.

The light scheme can be cycled using a button on the base, and internally there’s an ARM Cortex chip powering things. The polling rate — the accuracy with which the mouse reports its position — can be set as high as 1000Hz which makes it extremely responsive. Keychron claims a lifespan of up to 70 million clicks, too.

In extended use the lightness of this mouse is a definite bonus, and it's much less likely to tire your hands and arms than using a heavier model. Even if you don’t bother with macros, being able to assign custom functions to buttons is helpful, as are the various sensitivity settings you can choose. None of this is particularly hard to do and should be perfectly accessible, even to less technical users.
